16th Street Baptist Church played a significant role in the Civil Rights movement in the 20th Century. The church itself was the site of a horrific bombing that resulted in the tragic death of four young girls and the physical and emotional injury of additional children and adults.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF) is dedicated to the celebration and preservation of Alabama's exceptional sports heritage. Located in downtown Birmingham, the ASHOF & Museum houses over 6,000 sports artifacts and is considered a benchmark for sports museums across the country.

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest motorcycle collection. With more than 1,600 motorcycles spanning over 100 years of production from all around the world, this museum is a motorcyclist’s dream. See hundreds of museum’s motorcycles displayed at a time in their 5-story building. The museum also features the world’s most extensive collection of Lotus cars. The museum is located at the Barber Motorsports Racetrack.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BRCI) is a modern museum that is located within an area that includes the U.S. Park Service’s administered Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument, a collection of sites important to the American Civil Rights Movement.
Visitors to the BRCI can experience a rendition of a segregated city in the 1950s, as well as examine a replica of a Freedom Riders bus and even the actual jail cell door from behind which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. penned his famous “Letter From Birmingham Jail.” The institute is also home to an expansive archive of documents from the Civil Rights Movement and nearly 500 recorded oral histories relevant to the period.
Across the street from the BRCI is Kelley Ingram Park and the 16th Street Baptist Church, two other important Civil Rights sites.

Historic Bethel Baptist Church was the headquarters for the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights and was bombed on three sperate occasions during the American Civil Rights Movement. This church is an ideal “classroom” from which to learn the history of the Modern Civil Rights Movement. This nation-changing history helps “students” of all ages better understand this history and its connections to their lives today. Using primary source documents and other resources, we transform teaching and learning by offering a hands-on interactive experience designed to educate, engage, and empower visitors.

In addition, the Southern Museum of Flight is home to the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame with over 65 biographical plaques presenting Alabama aviation history through collective biography.
