Our tour begins at Independence Square, also known as Maidan. It is the nucleus of modern Kyiv. The main street Khreschatyk runs across it, impressing by the contrast of Stalin-era architecture and modern monuments. Enjoy the panoramic view before the start of your adventure!

Stop At: The National Bank of Ukraine, Instytutska vul. 9, Kyiv 01601
The famous Lypky district is known for old mansions and administrative buildings. You will get a chance to walk past the gorgeous building of the National Bank of Ukraine with two dates on its façade which remind us that Kyiv became the capital of Soviet Ukraine only in 1934.

Stop At: Office of the President of Ukraine, Bankova St, 11, Kyiv, Ukraine, 01220
The office of Ukraine’s President occupies one of the most impressive Stalin-era buildings in the city. Having been originally constructed in the late 1930-s to house the headquarters of the Kyiv Special Military District, later on it became the stronghold of the ruling Communist Party of Soviet Ukraine.

Stop At: The House with Chimeras, 10 Bankova Street, Kyiv
The Chimeras House is one of the most intricate in terms of the architecture and story behind. It was built in 1903 by the Kyiv Gaudi – Vladyslav Horodetsky, a talented architect and passionate hunter, to show the advantages of cement and concrete. It is decorated by sculptures of animals and fabulous creatures, created by the Italian-born sculptor Elio Salya.

Pass By: Bessarabska Square, Bessarabska Square, Kyiv
Bessarabska Square was once the city border, having been transformed into the very heart of Kyiv in just over 100 years. Its biggest attractions today are Bessarabky food market and Arena City complex, both quite old and grand in architecture. Today the neighbourhood offers a nice array of restaurants, pubs, bars, and nightclubs.
Pass By: Tarasa Shevchenko Boulevard, Kyiv
Taras Shevchenko Boulevard was one of the first in Kyiv. It is lined up with poplar trees which were planted to please Nicolas I, according to a city legend. It runs through the Latin block, which was formed after the construction of Taras Shevchenko National University and a number of gymnasiums next to it. Out of the car window you will see a botanical garden, which was once part of the campus. It has been a lively students’ neighbourhood for nearly 200 years now.
Stop At: St. Volodymyr's Cathedral, 20 Shevchenko Boulevard, Kyiv
St. Volodymyr Cathedral was built in honor of Volodymyr the Great, ruler of the Rus Empire who baptized his people in 988. The church was opened to the public in the late 19th century and was instantly called an art gallery. Having been decorated by nearly 100 artists, it is a great example of artistic trends of that period to be appreciated during this stop.

Pass By: Taras Shevchenko National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Ukraine, Volodymyrska St., 50, Kyiv 01030
Kyiv Opera was built in 1901, and escaped the fate of being destroyed twice in the WWII period. Being called a disgusting turtle by the local newspapers right after the construction, it is acknowledged as one of the most beautiful buildings in Kyiv nowadays.
Stop At: Golden Gate, Vladimirskaya st., 40a, Kyiv
The Golden Gate was built 1,000 years ago as a ceremonial entrance to the city. The name, most likely, comes from the Golden Gate of Jerusalem or Constantinople. The remains of the original gate are hidden under the reconstruction, next to which you will notice a bronze monument to Yaroslav the Wise. He was known as the father-in-law of Europe and is believed to have added a church on top of the initial structure.

Stop At: Saint Sophia Cathedral, Volodymyrska vul. 24, Kyiv 01001
St. Sophia of Kyiv is believed to have been constructed in 1018, which makes it the oldest original church in Ukraine. It is on the UNESCO world heritage list and operates as a museum today, displaying the biggest ensemble of frescoes and mosaics of the early 11th century Europe. You are cordially invited on a tour to see this unique architectural gem.
In the middle of the square you will also see the remarkable statue of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, a talented military leader who aimed at creating independent Ukraine nearly 400 years ago.
Entrance fee: 125 uah/adult, 55 uah/child. Unlike some other tours sold online, you will not have to pay for the guide's entry ticket, since all our guides are accredited professionals and do not require paid entry. In fact, it is illegal for amateur guides to conduct tours here and if noticed, they will be asked to leave.

Stop At: St Michael's Golden Domed Monastery, Triokhsviatytelska St, 8, Kyiv 01601
St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery set the tradition of plating domes with gold in Ukraine. It was destroyed before WWII and rebuilt in the late 1990-s. You will enjoy its Ukrainian baroque architecture from the outside and are welcome to appreciate this Orthodox Christian beauty’s interior. Outside of the monastic walls you will see a number of monuments, the Wall of Memory, Kyiv Pentagon and the former headquarters of the Communist Party of Soviet Ukraine.

Stop At: St. Andrew's Church, Andreyevskiy Spusk, 23, Kyiv
St. Andrew’s Church was constructed for the Russian Empress Elizabeth in the mid 1700-s and is known as one of the Seven Wonders of Kyiv. According to legends, St. Andrew the First Called came to the hill where the church stands and proclaimed rising of another Christian city. The area is known as Kyiv Montmartre and is connected to the Lower City by Andrew’s Descent. The street attracts a lot of locals as well as tourists, being lined up with souvenir stalls, art galleries and paintings. You will definitely want to spend some time there!

Stop At: Friendship of Nations Arch, Parkova Dorcha, Kyiv 02000
The Friendship of Nations Arch was set up in 1982 to celebrate 1500 years of Kyiv’s legendary founding. And it happened to be a good chance to remind us about the long history of “brotherly” Ukrainian-Russian relations. Today the Arch bears a black mark which looks like a crack pointing out to the current situation between the two countries.

Stop At: Klitschko Pedestrian-Bicycle Bridge, between Vladimirskaya Gorka and Arka Druzhby Narodov, Kyiv
The new pedestrian bridge was built in 2019 at the initiative of Kyiv’s Mayor Vitaliy Klichko and became the #1 viewing platform to absorb the beauty of the ancient Podil area, green islands on the mighty Dnipro River and the Park Bridge below.

Pass By: Poshtova Square, Poshtova Square, Kyiv 02000
The name of Poshtova Square comes from a post office which used to operate there before World War II. Archaeological finds suggest that the area is one of the oldest inhabited in the city. It is a popular rest site, with locals coming for walks along the Dnipro River embankment or taking motor ship rides offered at the river port from April till October.
Stop At: Kontraktova Square, Kontraktova Square, Kyiv 02000
Kontraktova Square is the heart of the ancient Podil neighbourhood, which can boast of so many architectural styles, that it deserves to be called an open-air museum. The area is always lively and attractive to be observed from inside of a car or on a walk.

Stop At: Kyiv Founders’ Monument, Navodnitskiy Park, Kyiv
Have you heard about the legendary founders of Kyiv? Well, you have a chance to encounter them in a boat ready to set their feet on the ground. The monument is an enlarged copy of a silver figurine presented to Richard Nixon on his visit to Kyiv in 1972. Situated on the Dnipro River embankment, it can be viewed out of a car window, just like the famous Metro Bridge and Paton Bridge.

Stop At: Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Lavrska St, 15, Kyiv, Ukraine, 01015
Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is one of the oldest Orthodox Christian monasteries across the territory of Eastern Europe. It was transformed into a museum complex in 1920-s and resurrected as a monastery in 1988 only. Find out what makes it so special on a walking tour to its catacombs, be amazed at the beauty of the Holy Dormition Cathedral and Refectory Church, climb one of the highest belfries in Europe, or pay a visit to one of numerous museums.
Entrance fee to the Lavra Museum Complex and Belfry – 200 uah/person, additional fees may apply when visiting some museums. As in the case of St. Sophia, only accredited guides are allowed to conduct tours, and our clients will save on paying entrance fees for an accredited guide at all exhibits of the Reserve. It is also worth mentioning that tours with our guides are not limited to 45 minutes compared to those with the Reserve guides, thus, we also take tourists to the catacombs.

Certainly, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to see one of the biggest monuments on our planet – the famous Motherland Statue. This fearsome 102 meter tall lady holds a sword in one hand and shield with the Soviet emblem in another, having been the highlight of the whole WWII Memorial since 1981. On a walk you will also see some other monuments and outdoor exhibits of military machinery.

Pass By: Holodomor Genocide Museum, Lavrska St, 3, Kyiv, Ukraine, 01015
Ukrainians suffered from several famines in the Soviet period, the severest of which took around 10 million lives. It is known as Holodomor-Genocide, which was committed by the Bolshevik occupational regime against the Ukrainian nation in 1932-1933. All information about it was firmly suppressed by the Communist totalitarian regime until the collapse of the USSR. Holodomor Memorial was opened only in 2009 and features the only museum on the planet which tells the story of this outrageous crime against humanity.

The Eternal Glory Park was created after World War II to commemorate the fallen Soviet soldiers. While passing by, you will see the granite Obelisk and Eternal Flame.
Pass By: Arsenalna Metro Station, Ivana Mazepy St., Kyiv 02000
Arsenalna Square is noted for the complex of Kyiv Fortress buildings of the 19th century and deepest metro station on Earth – Arsenalna, lying 105 meters below the ground. It was opened in 1960 as one of the first five stations of the Kyiv underground.
Stop At: Verkhovna Rada, Hrushevskoho Mykhajla vul. 5, Kyiv 01008
The Parliament of Ukraine, also known as the Verkhovna Rada (Supreme Council), occupies a square grey building crowned with a dome. It seems there’s nothing to admire, until you learn about underground tunnels connecting all the buildings nearby and imagine how many more secrets the neighbourhood conceals.

Stop At: Mariyinski Palace, Ullika Mikhaila Grushevskogo 5A, Kyiv 01008
Mariyinsky Palace was built in the mid-18th century at the behest of the Russian Empress Elizabeth I and was originally known as Royal Palace. Having changed substantially since then, it serves as the ceremonial residency of the Ukrainian President.

Stop At: The Cabinet of Ministers - Budynok Uryadu (The Government), Hrushevskoho Mykhajla vul. 12/2, Kyiv 01008
The biggest administrative building in the whole city is occupied by the Ukrainian government, or the Cabinet of Ministers. It was constructed in the late 1930-s and originally designed as the headquarters of the almighty secret service of Soviet Ukraine.
