The African American Museum in Philadelphia was the first museum in a major U.S. city dedicated to the culture and heritage of African Americans and the African diaspora. Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.
Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world's first true "penitentiary," a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of prisoners. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious criminals, including bank robber "Slick Willie" Sutton and Al Capone.

Christ Church Burial Ground is one of America’s most interesting Colonial and Revolution-era graveyards, with 1,400 markers on two beautiful acres right in the heart of historic Philadelphia.
The Burial Ground is the final resting place of some of our most prominent leaders including Benjamin Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence. This year the historic burial ground marks its 295th year.

The National Constitution Center is America’s first and only museum dedicated entirely to awareness and understanding of the US Constitution.
The museum’s main exhibits include 3 attractions: Freedom Rising, a multimedia theatrical production in a 350-seat star-shaped theater; The Story of We the People, an interactive exhibit in which you can try on an actual Supreme Court robe and watch yourself on the big screen as you recite the Presidential Oath of Office; and Signer’s Hall, where you’ll see life-size bronze statues of the Founding Fathers present at the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787. Fun, hands-on programs occur daily and include theatrical performances, trivia competitions, and more.

Find your own place in the story of liberty at the National Liberty Museum, located in the heart of historic Philadelphia. Glass art is the primary medium at this one-of-a-kind museum that tells the story of America's progression toward freedom and democracy through interactive exhibits and contemporary works of art.
Some noteworthy exhibitions include a 21-foot Chihuly glass flame illuminating heroes from the past and present, a colorful sculpture of two children made entirely of jelly beans, and a stained glass chess set with a witty take on tolerance.

With some 14,000 works of art in its collection, the museum curators produce masterful exhibitions focusing on themes like women in the arts, fantasy and nostalgia, and the role of art in times of war.
